Okja is a genre-blending film directed by Bong Joon-ho that tells the story of a young girl, Mija, and her genetically engineered “super-pig” companion Okja, who have lived together in the mountains of Korea. When a multinational corporation takes Okja away to exploit her as meat, Mija journeys across continents to rescue her friend. The film uses satire, adventure, and emotional drama to question industrial animal agriculture, consumerism, and corporate power in the food industry.
